June 20, 2003 - An overflow crowd spilled out into the parking lot as State Representative Alan Brown cut the ceremonial ribbon during the dedication of Oregon Coast Bank's Newport office. It was in the fall of 2001 that a group of local businesspeople came to the conclusion that none of the "chain" banks that served the central coast were actively providing loans to the motels, restaurants, shop owners, fishermen, loggers and other businesses that have always been the backbone of our coastal communities. But instead of just complaining, they did something about it. More than a hundred central coast residents agreed to invest in a new community bank, and in July of 2002 Oregon Coast Bank opened its first office in Newport.
Apparently it was a popular idea, because today the bank has grown to include four offices and well over $100 million in assets. More importantly, in just over five years we've invested more than $180 million into the communities we serve in the form of loans to local families and businesses.
Oregon Coast Bank has grown primarily because we offer a level of service that the "chain" banks just can't seem to provide. When you have a question about one of your accounts, you can talk face-to-face with a decision maker... which is a whole lot better than having to dial an 800 number.
