Newport, OR – More than 400 people joined in the festivities as the new Oregon Coast Bank building was dedicated on Thursday evening. Construction of the 7,600 square foot building, which is located on Newport’s bayfront across from the Embarcadero, began in November. Quade Construction of Lincoln City was the general contractor, with subcontracting services performed by a variety of other Lincoln County professionals. The project was completed on time and on budget.

Refreshments at the event included barbecued salmon, oysters from Oregon Oyster Farms, Mo’s chowder, Mo’s shrimp and cabbage salad, Canyon Way bread and a variety of cakes. The crowd enjoyed live acoustic music by Newport’s own “Sons of the Beaches”.

In honor of community banking, a 13-question Lincoln County Trivia Contest was held. Three different Newport residents, Lil Patrick, Jim Holt and Toni Brodie all achieved perfect scores, and will receive Embarcadero gift certificates for their efforts. Helen Danielson was the winner of the “Guess How Much Money is in the Fishbowl” contest, coming within $2 of the actual amount. For her winning entry, Danielson will receive $215.07, the amount in the fish bowl. A children’s version of the fishbowl game was won by Bayley Wallace, who came within $7 of the actual amount. Wallace’s winnings totaled $88.23.

In his brief remarks, Fred Postlewait, President and Chief Executive Office of Oregon Coast Bank, thanked the community as well as the Oregon Coast Bank Board of Directors and staff for helping the bank grow so rapidly. Frank Brawner of Neskowin, former Chief Executive Officer of the Oregon Banker’s Association and a board member of Oregon Coast Bank, spoke to the crowd about the value of community banking. Senior Vice President Vickie Spencer unveiled a portrait of the new Oregon Coast Bank building by Newport artist Marion Moir. State Representative Alan Brown, a long-time supporter of community banks in Lincoln County, had the honor of cutting the ceremonial ribbon.

Perhaps the highlight of the evening was an old-fashioned cake walk, featuring 18 cakes baked by Oregon Coast Bank staff members. Numbers were taped to the floor throughout the building and every five minutes a winning number was announced. The person standing on that number got to take home a cake.

“When you see stockholders and staff side-by-side barbecuing salmon to serve our customers, you can understand the spirit that has made Oregon Coast Bank so successful,” remarked Postlewait. “To have so many people come out to celebrate the dedication of this building was beyond our most optimistic expectations.”
