Job Summary:
The Chief Operations Officer (COO) is a senior executive responsible for overseeing the day-to-day administrative and operational functions of the bank. This role is critical to the bank’s success, ensuring that all operational processes are efficient, compliant, and aligned with the bank’s strategic goals. The COO will lead a diverse team of professionals across various departments, including Branch Operations, Deposit Operations, and Treasury Management. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with a proven track record of optimizing business processes, managing risk, and driving operational excellence in a financial institution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership & Planning:
- Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, contributing to the development and execution of the bank’s strategic plan.
- Translate the bank’s strategic vision into operational objectives and initiatives for all relevant departments.
- Identify and implement innovative operational strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve customer satisfaction.
- Operational Management & Oversight:
- Oversee all operational departments, including but not limited to:
- Branch Operations: Ensure consistent and high-quality service delivery across all branches, managing branch profitability and operational compliance.
- Deposit Operations: Manage the deposit account lifecycle, from opening to closing, and oversee all related back-office functions.
- Treasury Management & Payments: Lead the development and delivery of treasury management products and services, ensuring the efficient processing of all payments.
- Risk Management & Compliance:
- Ensure that all operational activities adhere to federal and state banking regulations, including but not limited to BSA/AML, OFAC, and SOX.
- Work closely with the Chief Risk Officer and internal audit to identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks.
- Develop and maintain robust policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard the bank’s assets and protect against fraud.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of managers and employees across multiple departments.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and exceptional service.
- Budgeting & Financial Management:
- Develop and manage the annual operating budget for all operational departments.
- Analyze financial performance, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure operational expenses are within budget.
- Customer Experience:
- Champion a customer-centric operational model, ensuring that all processes are designed to provide a seamless and positive customer experience.
- Oversee the resolution of complex customer issues and complaints, ensuring timely and effective solutions.
- Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or other advanced degree in business, finance, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in banking operations, including a senior leadership role, is preferred.
- Proven experience managing multiple operational functions within a financial institution.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, budget management, and operational P&L responsibility.
- Extensive knowledge of banking regulations, compliance requirements, and risk management principles.
- Skills:
- Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with the ability to influence and inspire at all levels of the organization.
- Superior communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Strong business acumen and a deep understanding of the financial services industry.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Proficiency in financial software and core banking systems.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
- Ability to lift to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Manual dexterity to operate office equipment, including computers and cash counters.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and in writing.
- Work Environment:
- This is a full-time, executive-level, on-site position. The role requires a high level of responsibility, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage complex challenges in a dynamic environment.
