Commercial Lender Team Lead

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead, motivate, and manage a team of Commercial Lenders, fostering a high-performance, collaborative, and results-driven environment.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, training, and professional development to team members, ensuring their continuous growth in commercial lending practices, credit analysis, and relationship management.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, set clear objectives, and provide constructive feedback to enhance individual and team performance.
  • Oversee the allocation of leads and territories within the team to maximize efficiency and achieve collective goals.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and escalation point for complex lending scenarios, credit challenges, and client issues.

 

Commercial Loan Origination & Portfolio Management:

  • Actively solicit, develop, and maintain a diversified portfolio of commercial loan relationships, including C&I, commercial real estate, and other business loans.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through networking, community involvement, and referrals from existing clients and internal partners.
  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis, including cash flow analysis, collateral evaluation, and risk assessment, to determine creditworthiness and structure appropriate loan solutions.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of loan agreements, ensuring compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and sound lending principles.
  • Prepare and present detailed loan proposals and credit memos to loan committees, articulating the credit story and recommending approval or denial.
  • Monitor loan repayment activities, ensure timely collection of payments, and proactively manage portfolio risk.
  • Identify and address potential problem loans, working collaboratively with credit administration and workout specialists as needed.
  • Cross-promote other bank products and services to commercial clients to deepen relationships and expand the bank’s footprint.

 

Strategic & Operational Excellence:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of commercial lending strategies that align with the bank’s overall business objectives and drive revenue growth.
  • *Stay current on industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes affecting commercial lending activities.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal partners, including credit risk, loan operations, legal, and compliance, to ensure seamless loan processing and adherence to all regulations.
  • Participate in community and economic development organizations and events to enhance the bank’s visibility and cultivate new business opportunities.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive reports on lending activities, including loan performance, portfolio quality, and profitability.
  • Be familiar with the employee handbook and will be held accountable to the standards of conduct and expectations detailed therein.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Skills & Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of commercial lending principles, practices, and procedures, including loan structuring, underwriting, and risk mitigation.
  • Strong understanding of financial statement analysis, credit analysis techniques, and cash flow modeling.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication (written and verbal), and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory compliance and lending policies and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and commercial lending software.
