Newport, OR – The board of directors of Oregon Coast Bank has announced that longtime Newport banker Vickie Spencer has been promoted to Executive Vice President. Spencer joined the bank this past April and played an active role in preparing the bank for its July opening. She is the bank’s loan administrator and as such is responsible for loan quality, staff training and legal compliance as well as personally handling many customer loan requests.

“Vickie is certainly one of the most experienced and capable bankers in Lincoln County,” commented Fred Postlewait, President of Oregon Coast Bank. “She’s very popular with customers and very successfully balances that “caring” attitude with the forthright business perspective needed for her job.”

Born and raised in Newberg, Spencer attended Portland State University. She began her local banking career in 1980 at the Bank of Newport. In 1982 she accepted a position at National Security Bank, where she would serve as secretary for Tom Moore, the bank’s president. Spencer was soon promoted to loan officer and later served as assistant vice president. After National Security Bank was sold to West One Bank, she was named vice president. During April of 1996, Spencer joined the management team that opened Lincoln Security Bank. In April of 2001 she was promoted to senior vice president. She served in that position until this past January, when she chose to leave the bank after it had been acquired by Umpqua Bank, a regional chain.

Always active in the local community, Spencer is a past president of the Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce. She is a longtime member and is serving president of Altrusa. Spencer has been involved with the Newport Seafood & Wine Festival committee and the Pacific Communities Hospital Foundation’s Festival of Trees. She is also involved with a book club made up of colleagues in the local banking industry and customers.

Vickie and her husband, Wayne, a Newport High School social studies teacher, reside in Newport with Mookie, their beloved golden retriever. The couple has one daughter, Brooke, 21, a student at Northwest Christian College. Much of their time is devoted to the Newport High School varsity softball team, which Wayne coaches. The couple also golfs and rarely misses University of Oregon football games.

Funded by more than 125 local stockholders and managed by a team of experienced local bankers, Oregon Coast Bank is the county’s only independent community bank. The bank is temporarily housed in a 2,600 square foot modular building at 909 SE Bay Boulevard, across from the Embarcadero. Oregon Coast Bank’s permanent home, which is currently in the final design stage, will soon be built on the same property. Since its July opening the bank has grown rapidly, opening more than 700 accounts. Oregon Coast Bank’s total assets currently exceed $18 million.
